Taimaa Salama, visual artist and sculptor from Gaza, Palestine

Taimaa Salama is a Palestinian visual artist and sculptor originally from Gaza.

As a Palestinian artist born and raised in Gaza, Taimaa grew up in a community experiencing trauma and frequent cases of disability, a community that nevertheless remained resilient. Her work holds this history by bridging the divide between sighted and low-vision audiences and also bringing in children, people facing trauma, and people with autism and ADHD. She employs relief sculpture and mixed media as her primary tools, blending tangible textures with abstract elements to convey a narrative about her people’s cultural past and present. Taimaa’s works invite audiences to engage with art through touch, breaking down traditional barriers and creating a welcoming space where it is possible to collectively imagine new ways of seeing together. In 2024, she lost her life’s work when her studio was bombed. Today, Taimaa lives in exile in Cairo. She is rebuilding her life and artistic practice to uphold the spirit of her people’s history and strength.
